Kdo se byť jen okrajově zajímá o japonskou kinematografii, musel se někdy setkat se jménem Jasudžiró Ozu. Ozu, považovaný za jednoho z nejosobitějších japonských filmařů, se proslavil coby autor civilních filmů, v nichž citlivě portrétuje vztahy mezi dětmi a rodiči (ponejvíce mezi otci a dcerami), manželskými páry či studenty a učiteli, vždy z různých jemných proměn nálady a perspektivy.
