“Future time? – Tomorrow?! – What’s next, it’s just a dream…”
Karel Hynek MÁCHA (May)
Following the project of the Pilgrimage Route of Karel Hynek Mácha from Prague to Sněžka, in 2012 our association PILGRIM came up with the idea of creating an experiential route across Prague, which would present it as a city of poets and unique poetry and which would also offer its visitors the opportunity to experience the extraordinary beauty of the landscape and nature of this city. This Prague “poetry route” represents the first part of Mácha’s pilgrimage route, passing from Prague to Ládví in a northeasterly direction across half of the territory of Bohemia. With the “poetry route” we want to commemorate some important Prague poets and places connected with their lives and work. We will meet on Friday, May 23 at 8 a.m. on Charles Square (by the lower fountain), in the place where Karel Hynek Mácha lived and where he wrote his May. We will introduce you to the content and motifs of the “Journeys of Poetry” project and you will walk through its route with us. From Charles Square, where we intend to install verses by KH Mácha, RM Rilke and J. Hora, we will head to Vyšehrad and from there along the embankment along the Vltava River to the National Theatre and further across Střelecký Island on Kampa, where Vladimír Holan lived. We will then continue to Petřín Gardens (Jaroslav Vrchlický) and through Prague Castle and Chotkovy Sady to Letná; from Letná then in a northeasterly direction through Stromovka and Trója and further through Cimický and Ďáblický háj to the observatory in Ládví. During the journey (16 km), we will stop in Letná at the Scarabeus Gallery to see the MÁCHA MAG(icky) exhibition, where we will introduce you to the Pilgrimage Routes project by KH Mácha. Here you can also refresh yourself in the Alchymista café. We will end the journey between 2 and 3 pm in Ládví.
