April 28 — May 1, 2017

Without the flight of birds, without great forests and free-flowing streams, without the sight of clouds by day and stars by night, we become impoverished in everything that makes us human.”

Thomas Berry

In this year's small Máchov pilgrimage, we will again connect, as last year, two key places of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha's work - the pensive, magical landscape of the rocky labyrinths of eastern Kokořínsko (Liběchov-Houska) and western Kokořínsko (Vlhošť) with the open landscape of the lonely rocky peaks of the western part of the České středohoří Mountains. Mácha went to Kokořínsko in 1831 and his poetic work is connected with it (Cigs, May); he was drawn to the landscape of the České středohoří Mountains at the end of his life and tragically ended his life here in Litoměřice in 1836. In the Kokořín part of the pilgrimage, on the first day we will walk the section from Království to Vidimi and further through Střezivojické and Dobřeňské dol to Ovčácké vrch. On the third day we will visit the remarkable Baroque Calvary behind Helfenburk Castle with a beautiful view of Úštěk and the extraordinary Sedlo mountain. The route from Úštěk to Sedlo and from there via Kalich, Trojhora and Dlouhý vrch to Litoměřice is very nice. The photos in the invitation are from our trip last year. If you can't go on the entire journey (92 km), you can walk any part of it with us, or you can join us anywhere.

"I, I am the spirit within the earth. The feet of the earth are my feet. The strength of the earth is my strength. The thoughts of the earth are my thoughts. The voice of the earth is my voice. The father of the earth is also my father... It is all in beauty, it is all in beauty."
