Let the gambling halls resound with people, let the courtiers always abound with lightning, I am blissful under the shelter of your cloak, enjoying the sweetness of loving silence under the gazebo.\u201d \u2014 Milota Zdirad Pol\u00e1k, The Majesty of Nature<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A walk through Prague on Monday, August 20th<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will meet at 10 am at&nbsp;<em>Charles Square&nbsp;<\/em>at the lower circular fountain, near the house where the poet Karel Hynek M\u00e1cha lived. From here we will set off on the planned route&nbsp;<em>paths of poetry&nbsp;<\/em>of Prague poets to Vy\u0161ehrad and further along the Vltava River to the National Theatre and from there to Kampa to the house where the poet Vladim\u00edr Holan lived. Here under the \u201cHolan plane tree\u201d and later in the Alchymista caf\u00e9 on Letn\u00e1, we will commemorate the work of two important Czech poets of the 19th century. From the birth of M\u00e1cha\u2019s important predecessor&nbsp;<strong>Miloty Zdirad Pol\u00e1k (1788-1856)&nbsp;<\/strong>230 years have passed this year. Zdirad Pol\u00e1k is considered the first significant Czech Renaissance poet. His remarkable poetic epic&nbsp;<em>The majesty of nature<\/em>, reflecting the then-current philosophical interest in a return to nature, was considered by Josef Jungman himself to be the \u201cfirst fruit of modern Czech poetry.\u201d This year will also mark 200 years since the birth of M\u00e1cha\u2019s follower, the early Renaissance poet&nbsp;<strong>V\u00e1clav Bolem\u00edr Nebesk\u00fd (1818-1882<\/strong>). Nebesky&#039;s philosophically-inflected poetic composition&nbsp;<em>Opponents,&nbsp;<\/em>illustrating Hegel&#039;s concept of historical development, is a direct continuation of M\u00e1cha&#039;s May. Moreover, Nebesk\u00fd was born in Nov\u00e9 Dvory near Koko\u0159\u00edn Castle, in the landscape that so inspired M\u00e1cha&#039;s peak poetic work. We will also remember the greatest landscape painter of German Romanticism&nbsp;<strong>Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840)<\/strong>, his work connected to the North Bohemian landscape of the Lusatian Mountains, which we will visit during the walk. (\u2026) Only my heart keeps beating, beat after beat chases \u2013 like the clocks of the universe, that ring their own bells!\u201d \u2014 V\u00e1clav Bolem\u00edr Nebesk\u00fd,<em>&nbsp;<\/em>Songs<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wandering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 1 Tuesday, August 21 (25 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will travel to M\u011bln\u00edk by bus from Prague via L\u00e1dv\u00ed (see connections). We will meet at 8 am above the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers at the M\u011bln\u00edk Castle, from where at 8:10 am we will set off on a hike along the M\u00e1cha Trail (red tourist trail): via&nbsp;<em>Chloume<\/em>to<em>, Lhotka<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>\u0160tampach pond&nbsp;<\/em>to&nbsp;<em>Kokorina<\/em>Here we turn onto the green trail that will lead us to a remarkable&nbsp;<em>the rock castle of Nedamy<\/em>, which served as a shelter during the Thirty Years&#039; War. From here we will head to the ruins of a former rich and impressive Baroque estate&nbsp;<em>Novy Dvur<\/em>where the poet was born 200 years ago&nbsp;<strong>VBNeleven.&nbsp;<\/strong>From here we will continue along the green path through&nbsp;<em>Jestrebice&nbsp;<\/em>to&nbsp;<em>Vojtechova&nbsp;<\/em>and continue along the red trail along the familiar path through&nbsp;<em>Paradise&nbsp;<\/em>and the top&nbsp;<em>Drnclik&nbsp;<\/em>(481 m above sea level) on&nbsp;<em>Bun<\/em>We will sleep either under the open sky at the Lu\u0148\u00e1k Chapel or in the Hostince pod Houskou.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/3-2BBorejov-2Bpozv-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Bo\u0159ejov, two chestnut trees behind the cemetery wall of the church of St. James the Elder<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">&quot;Let&#039;s run, let&#039;s run from the city to the plains, under those clear blue skies! A bursting flower breathes its fragrance, a youthful day ennobles the world with beauty.&quot; \u2014 Milota Zdirad Pol\u00e1k, The Majesty of Nature<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2 on Wednesday, August 22 (27 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 8 o&#039;clock in the morning we will set off across&nbsp;<em>Borejov&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>The eater&nbsp;<\/em>to&nbsp;<em>Windows<\/em>From Okeni we will continue along the road to&nbsp;<em>Fields&nbsp;<\/em>and from there along Poselsk\u00fd rybn\u00edk to \u0160ibeni\u010dn\u00ed vrch, to Poslov Ml\u00fdn and further along the red sign of M\u00e1cha&#039;s path to&nbsp;<em>Docs<\/em>, where we will have lunch and visit the Karel Hynek M\u00e1cha Memorial. From Doksy we will follow the yellow trail to&nbsp;<em>B\u0159ehynsk\u00fd pond<\/em>, where we will swim. From there we will continue below Pecopala&nbsp;<em>Through the Hrad\u010dany beech forests&nbsp;<\/em>to D\u00e9lov\u00e1 cesta and then follow the blue trail to the Pope&#039;s Ridge; then through Dlouha rokl\u00ed and M\u011bd\u011bn\u00fd dol to Krav\u00ed rokl\u00ed in&nbsp;<em>Hrad\u010dany walls&nbsp;<\/em>except for&nbsp;<em>Hrad\u010dany viewpoint<\/em>We spend the night under an overhang above the Plou\u010dnice River.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/2-2BRalsko-2Bpozv-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>View of the Ralsko region from Provod\u00ednsk\u00e9 kameny<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 3 on Thursday, August 23 (25 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 8 am in the morning we will head to Hrad\u010dany and from there follow the yellow trail through the meanders of the Plou\u010dnice River to&nbsp;<em>Borec Forest<\/em>, in which we will switch to the red one, which will lead us to Mimo\u0148; here we will see the early Baroque church. We will continue along the red one along Vranovsk\u00e1 alley to Vranov and from there over the Vranovsk\u00e9 rocks to the top of the distinctive basalt hill&nbsp;<em>Ralsko&nbsp;<\/em>(696 m above sea level), which is the dominant feature of the local region. From here there are wonderful distant views of the Lusatian and Jizera Mountains, the Giant Mountains, the Czech Central Mountains, the Bohemian Paradise and the Macha Region. From Ralsko we descend along the red trail to the village&nbsp;<em>Newspapers under Ralsk&nbsp;<\/em>and on to&nbsp;<em>The Plou\u010dnice Gap&nbsp;<\/em>(Devil&#039;s Hole). This 150 m long gorge, modified in the 16th century with an additional 55 m long tunnel, is an important cultural and technical monument (it was previously used to operate a hammer mill) and is considered one of the most interesting places on the Plou\u010dnice River (see picture on the next page). We will continue to Str\u00e1\u017e pod Ralskem, where we will see a number of interesting monuments - for example, the murals by the painter Vojm\u00edr Vokolek in the church of St. Sigismund. Finally, we will go around&nbsp;<em>Hore\u010dsk\u00fd pond&nbsp;<\/em>to&nbsp;<em>Hamra on the lake&nbsp;<\/em>if&nbsp;<em>Hamer Lake<\/em>from where we climb to the top&nbsp;<em>Devin&nbsp;<\/em>(435 m above sea level) with the ruins of a castle, one of the largest in Bohemia. D\u011bv\u00edn is part of the D\u011bv\u00edn, Ostr\u00fd, Schachstein natural monument with peak beech forests and relict pines. We will spend the night in the area of the castle ruins.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/6-2BPloucnice-ivan-anderle-2BPOZV-2B-25281-2529-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Meanders of the Plou\u010dnice River below the Hrad\u010dany beech forests \/ Ivan Anderle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/0-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Plou\u010dnice Gorge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 4 on Friday, August 24 (25 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the morning we will follow the red trail around&nbsp;<em>D\u011bv\u00ednsk\u00fd pond&nbsp;<\/em>to&nbsp;<em>Osice&nbsp;<\/em>with a number of remarkable monuments \u2013 the sculpture of the Three Saints from the workshop of Matthias B. Braun, the obelisk of the poet Friedrich Schiller. From here we will continue along the red trail around&nbsp;<em>Jeni\u0161ovsk\u00fd mill<\/em>, where the main source of the Plou\u010dnice River is located, through&nbsp;<em>Jan&#039;s Mine<\/em>, a foothill village&nbsp;<em>Dolen\u00ed Paseky&nbsp;<\/em>(summer residence of writer Karolina Sv\u011btl\u00e1), hill&nbsp;<em>Dovecote&nbsp;<\/em>(562 m above sea level) to&nbsp;<em>Prussian Cross&nbsp;<\/em>and on to the top&nbsp;<em>Je\u0161t\u011bd&nbsp;<\/em>(1012 m above sea level), the highest mountain of the Je\u0161t\u011bd Ridge. Here is the famous 94 m high modern building of the lookout tower and radio communication center in the shape of a hyperboloid by architect Karel Hub\u00e1\u010dek, which uniquely completes the overall shape of the mountain. From Je\u0161t\u011bd we continue along the red ridge&nbsp;<em>Je\u0161t\u011bd Ridge&nbsp;<\/em>over&nbsp;<em>Little Je\u0161t\u011bd&nbsp;<\/em>(754 m above sea level),&nbsp;<em>Little Lime&nbsp;<\/em>(687 m above sea level) and&nbsp;<em>Lawn&nbsp;<\/em>except for&nbsp;<em>Great Limestone&nbsp;<\/em>(790 m above sea level), where there is a nature reserve with a canopy of mountaintop scree forest. We will spend the night at Velk\u00e9 V\u00e1penn\u00e9 or in a meadow just below the forest above the village of Jitrava.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Hamr_na_jezer-25CC-258Ce-a-2BJested-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>View of Je\u0161t\u011bd across Hamersk\u00fd pond<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/4-2BOYBIN-2Bpozv-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Oyb\u00edn, view into the presbytery of the monastery church<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 5 on Saturday, August 25 (25 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the morning we will set off along the red trail and after Jitravsk\u00fd vrch we will enter the Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area (PLKO). We will walk through&nbsp;<em>High&nbsp;<\/em>(545 m),&nbsp;<em>Beautiful mine<\/em>, we will visit the castle ruins&nbsp;<em>Vetrov&nbsp;<\/em>until we get to&nbsp;<em>Petrovic<\/em>From here we follow the blue trail across the state border to&nbsp;<em>L\u00fcckendorf<\/em>, the eastern part of the spa town of Oyb\u00edn, dominated by a sandstone table mountain with the ruins of a medieval castle and monastery, which was fundamentally rebuilt by Charles IV in the 14th century. The Gothic interiors of the castle and the monastery church inspired CD Friedrich to create three remarkable paintings, the most significant of which is&nbsp;<em>Hutten&#039;s grave&nbsp;<\/em>(1823) and&nbsp;<em>Dreaming&nbsp;<\/em>(1835). We will see the castle and the monastery and then follow the blue trail to&nbsp;<em>Forest&nbsp;<\/em>(749 m), from there continue along the blue and red to the castle&nbsp;<em>Falkenstein&nbsp;<\/em>except for&nbsp;<em>Puddle&nbsp;<\/em>(792 m), where we spend the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">\u201cThe silence of the Sabbath had broken, the silence of the autumn evening. The sun had retreated to the mountains and its shine, breaking through the bark, was purplely showered through the dry leaves and rained down silent blessings; it was just the time to die and the place was just the right place for that: Dying autumn and the reddening of the plains, the canopy of those shady forest trees, the silence around as pious contemplation, \u2026\u201d \u2014 V\u00e1clav Bolem\u00edr Nebesk\u00fd, Protich\u016fdci&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/442px-Caspar_David_Friedrich_-_Huttens_Grab-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>CDFrieidrich, Hutten&#039;s Tomb, 1823<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Hvozd_2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Hvozd, view from Mi\u0159enice<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 6 on Sunday, August 26 (15 km)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the morning we will set off following the red trail to&nbsp;<em>Upper Light<\/em>, from here to&nbsp;<em>Dry hill&nbsp;<\/em>(641 m), further to the rock massif with a rock gate with the remains of a medieval castle&nbsp;<em>Milstein&nbsp;<\/em>(562 m) and over&nbsp;<em>Rous\u00ednov&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Clamp&nbsp;<\/em>to a beautiful mountain&nbsp;<em>Key&nbsp;<\/em>(759 m), which CD Friedrich depicted in a unique way in one of his paintings. From Kl\u00ed\u010d, where there is a beautiful view, we follow the blue trail to&nbsp;<em>Novy Bor<\/em>from where we will return to Prague by bus. (An alternative route from Lu\u017e to Nov\u00fd Bor leads via Tol\u0161tejn, Jedlov\u00e1 and Velk\u00fd buk \u2013 length 22 km).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/potulnauniverzita.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/LUZ-2B7-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Lu\u017e, view from the southeast<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">\u201cHeaven, the most glorious wonder of immeasurable allness, what slave of death can adequately describe your grandeur? If I were to dip my pen in the fire that shines in your midst, if everything were to ignite in me the creative power that belongs to me, if the holy Seraphim were to descend from your paradises to help me, if I were to find the peoples of all languages of the beautiful poet, I would not even give a suggestion of the shadow of glorious grandeur.
