After the INDIGENITY seminar, we will set off on Sunday morning, August 10th, from the train station in Brumov on a journey across the White Carpathians. We will walk from the northeast to the southwest along the state border with the Slovak Republic, or rather with several overlaps beyond it. Our journey will connect several interesting places, which we will mainly focus on: at the beginning of the journey, it will be the native land of the writer Ludv\u00edk Vacul\u00edk between Brumov, Tarandov\u00e1 and Slovakia, where the plot of his famous novel takes place Ax, <\/em>which we will remember. On the Slovak side, it will be primarily a remarkable geological and paleontological locality, Vr\u0161atsk\u00e1 bradla. We will also visit the Vl\u00e1r Pass and the Javorn\u00edk range; the legendary Moravian Kopanice with the villages of \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 and Star\u00fd Hrozenkov, known for their beautiful landscape and specific dialect and folklore, as well as the story of the \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 goddesses; the mountain range of Velk\u00e9 and Mal\u00e9 Lopen\u00edk and Velk\u00e9 Javo\u0159ina with extensive primeval forests, which is the highest part of the White Carpathians. And finally, we will walk through the famous Filipovsk\u00e9 Valley in the Hor\u0148\u00e1cko area below Velk\u00e9 Javo\u0159ina to Velk\u00e9 nad Veli\u010dkou.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First day, Sunday, August 10<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brumov-Tarandov\u00e1-Pr\u016fklesy-Pod Okr\u0161liskem- Brezov\u00e1-Vr\u0161atsk\u00e9 hradn\u00e9 bralo-Chmelov\u00e1 - PR Vr\u0161atsk\u00e1 bradl\u00e1-Vr\u0161atsk\u00e9 Podhradie (17 km)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning after breakfast we will set off from H\u00e1jenka in Bylnice on foot to the train station in Bylnice and from there at 10:01 by train to Brumov train station (not Brumov st\u0159ed) with arrival at 10:07. Here we will meet other pilgrims and together at 10:15 we will set off on a journey, the initial part of which we will dedicate to the memory of the writer Ludv\u00edk Vacul\u00edk (1926-2015), a native of Brumov. The plot of Vacul\u00edk's autobiographical novel Ax<\/em>, which draws its theme from the fate of the writer's father \u2013 and which is considered one of the most important Czech novels of the 20th century \u2013 takes place mainly in the Wallachian countryside between Brumov, Tarandov\u00e1 and Slovakia. From Brumov we will go to the settlement Tarandov\u00e1<\/em>, where we will read excerpts from this novel, which testifies to the profound social transformation of the 1950s and to Vacul\u00edk's search for personal responsibility, a new life balance, and inner strength in returning to the archetypal ancestral and natural values of the local landscape; Ludv\u00edk Vacul\u00edk himself called this novel an Indian epic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Tarandov\u00e1 we follow the yellow trail to Bare hill<\/em> (830 m) and to the top Slumps<\/em> (837 m), one of the highest peaks of the northern part of the White Carpathians. We will cross the state border at the crossing Under O\u0161krliskem<\/em> and across the crossroads Birch tree <\/em>with the nearby chapel of Our Lady the Queen we will reach the cottage Vr\u0161atec<\/em> and to the Nature Reserve Vr\u0161at castle rampart<\/em>We will walk the entire unique sharp Vr\u0161atec-Javorn\u00edk ridge, including the peak Chmelov\u00e1 <\/em>(925 m), which is the second highest peak of the White Carpathians. Vr\u0161atsk\u00e1 bradla is an important geological and paleontological site with a large number of shallow sea fossil finds. We will have dinner in a pub in Vr\u0161atsky podhradie <\/em>and we spend the night under the open sky in the meadow below the Vr\u0161atec cottage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, Monday, August 11th<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vr\u0161atsk\u00e9 podhradie-Krivokl\u00e1tsk\u00e9 luky-Dr\u00e1cia stud\u0148a-Vl\u00e1rsk\u00fd pass \u2013 Javorn\u00edk (22 km)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning we will head from the Vr\u0161atec chalet to the Pod Lysou turnoff and from there on the way to Valleys<\/em> and between M\u00e1niov\u00e1 hora and Ostr\u00fd vrch to the nature reserve Krivoklat meadows<\/em>From there we will go down to Krivokl\u00e1t lookout tower<\/em>, at a crossroads Cartilage<\/em> and further to the natural monument Dragon's Well<\/em>. Dra\u010dia stud\u0148a, located in the Bole\u0161ovsk\u00e1 Valley, is the most massive foam rock formation in the White Carpathians, which stands out for its beautiful waterfalls. From here we will continue under Trt\u00e1lka to Vl\u00e1r Pass<\/em>, which is a breakthrough valley of the Vl\u00e1ra River in the White Carpathians. It also represents an important transport link between Moravia and Pova\u017e\u00ed. Here we will follow the red-marked tourist route from Sidonia to Mount Javorn\u00edk. We will follow it to Cold hill<\/em> (742 m) and further to Maple tree <\/em>(783 m), where we spend the night in the forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day Three, Tuesday, August 12<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Javorn\u00edk-\u010cere\u0161ienky-Ba\u0161ta-\u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1-Star\u00fd Hrozenkov-meadows below Star\u00fd Hrozenkov (21 km)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning we will set off from Javorn\u00edk to Cherry trees <\/em>(758 m) and further on Basta crossroads, <\/em>from where we will continue on the yellow road to the village \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1<\/em>. \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 is a legendary village in Moravian Kopanice, the center of which is the village of Star\u00fd Hrozenkov. It is a specific remote ethnographic area, which is located directly on the Moravian-Slovak border and in which tradition has significantly established itself. It also includes the villages of V\u00e1penice and Vy\u0161kovec - all villages are united by a beautiful folk costume and a special Kopanice dialect, which is close to Slovak. Mrs. Renata Vacul\u00edkov\u00e1 will tell us about the history and folklore of this region in the Information Center for the Development of Moravian Kopanice, which we will visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 is famous for the story of women endowed with exceptional abilities, who were called goddesses, who could heal, advise people in trouble and tell fortunes, and who drew their strength from the magical landscape of Kopanice. We will look at the cottage of the last of these \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 goddesses, Irma Gabrhelov\u00e1, in which a museum was recently established. Our guide to this tradition will be the writer Kate\u0159ina B\u011btka Kohoutov\u00e1, who lived in \u017d\u00edtkov\u00e1 for thirteen years and who draws inspiration from this landscape in her work. We will visit her retreat center Thaia and then set off from Star\u00fd Hrozenkov to Mikul\u010dina Hill <\/em>(799 m) and we will spend the night somewhere in its vicinity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day Four, Wednesday, August 13<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Meadows under Star\u00fd Hrozenkov-Mikul\u010din vrch-Velk\u00fd Lopen\u00edk-Kv\u011btn\u00e1-Velk\u00e1 Javo\u0159ina (22 km)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning we will set off along the yellow tourist trail (Via Czechia-south) to Tomek's Hill<\/em> (794 m) and on Mikul\u010din Hill<\/em> (799 m) and from there continue along the yellow line to Lopenick\u00fd saddle<\/em> (which is a prominent landmark in the landscape), on Little Lopen\u00edk <\/em>(881 m) up to The Great Lopen\u00edk<\/em> (911 m). At the top of Velk\u00fd Lopen\u00edk there is a wooden 22-meter high lookout tower and a hundred meters from it is the Velk\u00fd Lopen\u00edk spring. When viewed from Uhersk\u00fd Brod, the Velk\u00fd Lopen\u00edk ridge with Velk\u00e1 Javo\u0159ina forms a distinctive dominant feature of the local landscape. We will continue along the green to the village Flower<\/em> except for Velka Javo\u0159ina<\/em> (970 m), the highest peak of the White Carpathians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the top of Velk\u00e1 Javo\u0159ina there is the only mountain meadow in the White Carpathians and also a television transmitter. On their northern and partly southern slopes (on the Slovak side) there is the Javo\u0159ina National Nature Reserve (166 ha) with original forest stands of maple, sycamore, beech, ash, which, thanks to a two-hundred-year-old non-intervention regime, have a primeval forest character; several species of orchids are also abundant here. The local rich primeval forest, diverse in age and species, creates ideal living conditions for a large number of other species of plants, animals and fungi. In the eastern part of the reserve, on the Jelenec hill (925 m) there is a military tower, which today serves as a lookout tower. We will have dinner at the Ho\u013euby cottage and spend the night under the open sky by the forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day Five, Thursday, August 14<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Velk\u00e1 Javo\u0159ina-Kub\u00edk\u016fv vrch-Megova bouda-Filipovsk\u00e9 \u00fadol\u00ed-Javorn\u00edk-Velk\u00e1 nad Veli\u010dkou (18 km)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning we will set off from Velk\u00e1 Javo\u0159ina on the red trail to Durdu<\/em> (842 m), Ka\u0161parisk\u016fv vrch<\/em> (778 m) up to Kub\u00edk's Hill<\/em> (684 m) and from there we will descend to the famous Meg's hut<\/em>, where in the basin Hruby brook<\/em> begins Philippov Valley.<\/em> It is a charming two-storey stone building that originally served as a hunting and excursion residence for Filip Magnis, the owner of the Str\u00e1\u017enice estate. In the second half of the 19th century, he organized Filipovsk\u00fd Valley (<\/em>which starts right below the cottage) evangelical priest Dr. Jozef Hurban from Brezov\u00e1 pilgrimages and trips. The aim of these trips was to bring together "Hungarian and Moravian Slovaks", i.e. people living on both sides of the White Carpathians; their participants also included Leo\u0161 Jan\u00e1\u010dek, the \u00daprkov\u00e9 brothers, Franti\u0161ek Barto\u0161, Jan Herben, Du\u0161an Jurkovi\u010d and the Mr\u0161t\u00edci brothers. These meetings are considered the beginning of regular meetings of Czechs and Slovaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will proceed through the deeply cut Filipovsk\u00fd Valley under the mountain Hillfort <\/em>(636 m) to Fox hut.<\/em> The valley is dominated by a centuries-old spruce tree and is home to many species of plants and animals, and occasionally a bear visits from Slovakia; during World War II, the Filipovsk\u00e9 Valley was an important smuggling route. We will descend through it to Javorn\u00edk<\/em> and to Velke nad Veli\u010dkou<\/em>, the famous place of the famous Hor\u0148\u00e1k Festival, from where we will return to Prague by train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
